City launches latest edition of This Is Cape Town magazine to boost visitor economy
14 September 2025
The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, Alderman James Vos, has unveiled the fifth edition of the City’s flagship place-marketing magazine, This Is Cape Town. The launch took place at an event with tourism operators and content creators, perfectly timed to coincide with Tourism Month.
The publication highlights the City’s six destination-marketing themes: Visit, Live, Work, Study, Play and Invest. Volume 5 shines a spotlight on Khayelitsha Fashion Week, the wine routes across the metro and surrounding regions, and how Cape Town’s clothing brands are leading the way in sustainability and localised production.
The magazine is distributed online, in international airport lounges at Cape Town International Airport, and at select trade shows. Each edition also achieves global digital reach, with hundreds of thousands of readers in markets such as the USA, Ethiopia, Brazil, the United Kingdom and Nigeria.
‘This Is Cape Town has become a powerful platform to share the city’s many inspiring and innovative stories. Each edition is more than just a magazine, it’s a celebration of the city and a showcase of its people and their achievements,’ said Alderman Vos.
Last year alone, the city welcomed 2,4 million overnight visitors who injected roughly R25 billion into the local economy, sustaining about 106 000 jobs – nearly 7% of all employment in Cape Town. These figures underline the impact of tourism on sectors ranging from hospitality and retail to manufacturing and transport.
‘We invest in tourism and place-marketing to grow the value of tourism by attracting more volumes through smart campaigns. This Is Cape Town plays a central role, putting a piece of our city in front of the world and inspiring visitors and investors to choose Cape Town. More visitors and investment mean more jobs and opportunities for local businesses. Our mission is to build on today’s successes and grow beyond these numbers so that more Capetonians can share in the benefits of tourism,’ Alderman Vos concluded.
